Markham will celebrate its 225th Anniversary of the Berczy Settlers

The year 2019 marks the 225th anniversary of the arrival of the Markham Berczy Settlers to Markham Township. 

Markham celebrates at Applefest on Saturday, September 28

The City of Markham is recognizing this special milestone at Applefest held on Saturday, September 28th at the Markham Museum, 9350 Markham Road from 10 to 4. Admission is free. Some may wish to attend this event. For more details check: http://www.guidingstar.ca/Applefest.htm

Markham Berczy Settlers Association

It is five years since we last held a meeting of the Markham Berczy Settlers Association. Because it is the 225th anniversary, we want to celebrate on Sunday, September 29th.

10:30 a.m. — those who wish to attend the worship service at Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church  20 Union St, Unionville at the corner of Euclid Street.  The building is wheelchair accessible.

NoonLunch at Jakes on Main Bar & Grille 202 Main Street. [jakesonmainunionville.com] If you plan on attending, let us know info@markhamberczysettlers.ca This will give us an idea of numbers for seating. This was once the home of Charles H Stiver and his wife Marein Burkholder.

1:45 p.m. — Unionville Stiver Mill Community Centre, 9 Station Lane The mill has been restored. The market ends at 2 p.m.

2:30 p.m. — Bethesda Lutheran Cemetery 9423 Kennedy Rd, Markham, Entry off Aksell Rinck Drive Many of our early families are buried here. Lorne Smith will point out some monuments of interest.

Meeting

3:00 p.m.Angus Glen Community Centre 3990 Major Mackenzie Dr E. 

This was once the location of a Stiver farm. Meeting of the Markham Berczy Settlers Association There will be some business to attend to, such as the election of the Board of Directors [We need at least one more.] and some short reports. Only paid-up members may vote. This time together provides us an opportunity to share our research and to get to know other Markham Berczy Settler descendants.
